Tom Clancy's The Division

Ubisoft's The Division is set in Manhattan, New York, straight after an outbreak of smallpox. Your job (or the protagonist's job, since this game can be played in Multiplayer mode) is to calm the city.

You are part of a legal division tasked with restoring order 'by any means'. You (the protagonist) can, and do, attack your enemies, that is, anyone who gets in the way of you performing your duty. You attack by means of weapons that you acquire (may have been discarded by the enemy, or you may have purchased them with your earnings) and hence you become skilled in fighting.

The division you are a part of has 3 main wings, or sections: Medical, Technical, and Security. The Medical wing concentrates itself with the nature of the virus, whereas the Technical and Security wings concern themselves with the technicalities of how the virus mutates and the security implications that this entails. What is known is that the smallpox virus was introduced by way of infected monetary notes (hence it is often referred to as the 'Green Poison'). Neither is the government seen as 'all-benevolent', given that there are groups who feel that the government desserted them in this crucial time of need. As a result, there are members of these groups who have opted to 'go rogue', in order to yield their own form of 'justice' against those government agencies they feel desserted them. However, murders and counter-murders can hence occur.

So, whilst keeping in mind your objective of being a calming influece on a tense Manhattan, you have to come to terms with a number of different groups, all with their own agendas (e.g. the Rikers are a bunch of ex-Rikers Island inmates, whilst the Cleaners are a bunch of domestics, who feel that everyone is infected with the smallpox).

The game was released for PS4, XBox One, and PC (Windows).
